Rolex Submariner Date ‘Red Letter’ (1680) – Chrono Swiss Watch

Pre-Owned Rolex 40mm “Red” Submariner Date, Black Mark IV Dial, Oyster Bracelet, Ref. 1680 Rolex first introduced the 1680 reference Submariner back in 1969 and was in production until 1979. What is unique about the 1680 reference is that it was the first Submariner to feature a date function. This Submariner has the ‘Submariner’ text written in red which of course has been referred to by collectors as a ‘Red Submariner’. Since these ‘Red Subs’ were only produced for such a short time, they are extremely sought after by vintage collectors. This watch and its 40mm stainless steel case features a Mark IV matte black dial. The Mark IV dial is highlighted by the feet first depth rating with open 6’s and red Submariner text painted directly onto the dial. The dials tritium lume has developed a distinguished patina, with the hour markers and hands aged to a nice off white, pale yellow color giving it a great vintage aesthetic. Powered by a self winding 1575 caliber movement, which offers 44 hours of power reserve. Attached is an Oyster bracelet in stainless steel with a folding clasp.
